Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

This message is dated  January 2019 for the whole area.
Several members have raised concerns re the databases they maintian of their members’ contact details and whether these are GDPR compliant with the new very strict data protection law, which came into effect in May 2018.
Data Protection Guidance – incorporating GDPR
Changes to the way Neighbourhood Watch uses members’ data come into force in May 2018.
We have prepared the Guidance document for scheme coordinators, to remind them of their obligations under data protection legislation and to help them understand, what the new changes mean.
This Guidance, has been prepared after extensive consultation with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office), our members and other partners.
This Guidance has been prepared to take account of the much publicised changes under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that came into effect, on 25th May 2018.
We have received reassurance from the ICO that there is no need for Neighbourhood Watch, to reaffirm the consent of our current members for their data to be used, for the purposes of communication and scheme administration, by either their local force area or London borough associations, Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, or Neighbourhood Watch Network (on the national Scheme Register).
Going forward, this consent will need to be evidenced, for new members joining us. Changes are underway to the national Neighbourhood Watch Scheme Register on Neighbourhood Alert, to ensure that the system is fully compliant and it is easier for Neighbourhood Watch members to register and their consent to be evidenced.
While NWN recommends that member data be stored on the national NW Scheme Register, or other secure network, if force areas or coordinators choose to continue to keep their own hard copy or electronic records, please use the customisable form below
This is the LINK to the Guidance and the document I have copied below.
