Distraction Burglary Advice

Alert message sent 25/06/2018 12:55:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Please be aware of the following. This has happened in a different police force area but for residents to be aware.

An unknown male has gone to the front door of a property claiming that he was a builder next door. He said that he needed to show the property owner he was going to do some work in the garden and wanted the resident to accompany him to make sure he didn't cause any damage. The front door was left too and not closed.

The victim asked a number of questions during which the male appeared to become quite agitated. However the male has guided the victim around to side of the property, where he spoke about the flowers planted in the garden. The victim has thought nothing more of it, until it was noticed that items were missing and discarded empty jewellery boxes.

Please be alert and call the police if you notice any suspicious activity.

Thank you,
